OUR STORY!
Established in 1923 by Montgomery Barnes, this Southern gem started as Barnes' private home. During WWI, the location served as a halfway point between Fort Belle Fontaine near St. Louis, and Camp Pike in Little Rock, Arkansas. After housing the occasional wayward traveler, Barnes set out to create what was supposed to be a guest shack on the side of his property. After many renovations and expanded rooms - Monty made the decision to put his money where his mouth was and launch his own inn. Nowadays things are quieter for this quaint 'little slice of heaven' but perfect for the wayward traveler that may find themselves in this neck of the woods.

Montgomery Barnes, founder of Angeltop Roadside Inn, 1930.

I really don’t get what people are talking about when they call this place “creepy”. I took my kids and they LOVED it!!! Everyone is so obsessed with their darn iPods and MySpace these days that they don’t appreciate the good outdoors and rustic living.

Very neat find! After purchasing a box of old photos from an estate sale while staying here in Southern Missouri-- Wedged between a hardback novel (At the Mountains of Madness and Other Novels by H.P. Lovecraft-- another sweet find!) was this letter penned by Montgomery H. Barnes I of the Angeltop Roadside Inn addressed to his young daughter, Dorothy Barnes. My estimations lead me to believe this was written around the late 1920's-early 1930's. Dorothy Barnes was just 15 years old when her father sent her away to work upstate as a governess, hours away from her family and home.Further research into the letter revealed that Barnes and his daughter had a unique relationship, allegedly more profound than what he shared with his sons. Dorothy was his only daughter, and it was no secret that he spoiled her over the older Barnes boys.I was unable to find much context alluding to the specifics of the letter, but I believe this letter allowed Barnes to stay connected to his daughter and provide her with guidance and love, even from a distance.

Transcript:Dorothy, my dearest girl,You may never forgive me for what I’ve done; truthfully I cannot say I will ever be able to forgive myself either. Just know that your papa loves you so dearly, and every decision I have made in the past year has been in preparation for this day. It has been for you, sweetheart.
Always you.
Your Father,
Montgomery H. Barnes

A blog documenting the odd happenings in my home state of Missouri, founded in 2003 focusing on the county I grew up in: Shannon, MO!!!

Could Elioenai Pryderch... be a VAMPIRE?

According to my research, since approximately 1880, Elioenai Pryderch and his "descendants" have been leading the New King's Faith Baptist Church consecutively.Despite supposedly being the son of each forebearer... there are absolutely NO records of marriage for any such individuals under that name within the last CENTURY.This would go against the protestant faith of a pastor having sexual relations outside of marriage. What is the truth ?Maybe it's one guy... he could potentially be a vampire (they are real!) or some other type of immortal.Just speculation........

Why the !@#$% are these weird eyes all over Angeltop Valley?

With Angeltop Valley (not even a valley, ROFL xD) having a heavy theme of angels, heaven, and the concept of salvation in their naming practices: I believe it's possible a new denomination of Protestant Christianity is emerging.Oculum = God?

Pictured below: A strange piece of paper discovered amidst the New Kings Faith Baptist Church after the fire of 2000. Dated late 1800s not unlike many other findings.

Reportedly, the ink used for this strange declaration was Elioenai Pryderch I's blood. The side with fingerprints was tested and links to the DNA of people whose ancestors are the founding familys... MOAR BLOOD?!?!?!?!Each of the familys listed have descendants within Angeltop Valley to this day... maybe they know more? IDK, let me know your ideas!
